Aaranyak Launches AIRAVAT Campaign To Save Elephants

Aaranyak has launched the AIRAVAT mobile outreach campaign to stop elephant electrocution deaths in Assam. The campaign started on October 3, 2026, and focuses on areas like Udalguri, Baksa, and Tamulpur where human-elephant conflict is high.

Focus on Illegal Electric Fencing

The main goal of the campaign is to stop the use of illegal electric fencing that kills elephants. Two elephants died from electrocution on September 18 and October 6, 2026, in Tamulpur and Baksa. The campaign uses e-rickshaws with speakers to visit villages, tea gardens, and markets during the harvest season.

Community Workshops and Support

Project officers Anushka Saikia and Abhilasha Boruah are holding awareness workshops for local residents. The initiative is supported by the IUCN SSC Centre for Species Survival Asian Elephant Rapid Response 2026 Grant and works with the Assam Forest Department and local police. Officials report that the program helps residents learn about legal compensation and safe ways to protect crops.
