An investigation is underway after social media influencer Aamir Shaukeen allegedly made racist remarks and mocked a young man from Tripura in Delhi. The incident, captured in a viral video, sparked widespread outrage across Northeast India, leading the Youth Tipra Federation to formally register a complaint. Suraj Debbarma, president of the youth wing of the Tipra Motha party, accused Shaukeen of racial harassment, cyberbullying, and hate speech.
Following the public backlash, Shaukeen posted an apology video on Instagram claiming the interaction was scripted, but legal consequences have followed.
Tripura police have officially registered an FIR against the influencer, with the Inspector General of Police confirming that strict action will be taken. Currently, reports indicate that Shaukeen is absconding, and authorities are actively seeking his whereabouts.
Central Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the incident on social media, assuring that law enforcement would teach the accused a harsh lesson.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha intervened by directing the state Director General of Police to coordinate with the Delhi Police to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter. Although Delhi Police initially reported receiving no formal complaints, the case has now escalated to involve inter-state police cooperation to address the allegations of racial abuse.
